Welcome to my blog! My name is Christy, I am 46 years old, a wife and mother of two young adults, and I live in a small town in south central Pennsylvania. I was diagnosed with breast cancer on June 2, 2015. I had cancer in both my breasts. I was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer in my left breast and Stage 2b in my right breast. After a failed lumpectomy, I had to get a bilateral mastectomy. Unlike most women, I decided not to reconstruct.
When my cancer journey started, I decided to keep a journal. I figured it would be an outlet for me and perhaps, a source of information for either of my kids in case they would get cursed with the same diagnosis later in their life. One day, when I was writing in my journal it occurred to me, what is my goal with this journal? Yes, it helps me and perhaps my family will read it someday but I might be able to help other women who are going through the same thing by sharing my experiences, stories, thoughts, and feelings. So, the idea of a blog started to flourish. Truth be known, it also made sense because more than likely my kids wouldn’t be able to read my journal because they can’t read cursive since it is a dying skill (and my handwriting has declined in my non-school years!); but that is a whole other blog. LOL
My goal is to help anyone reading this blog (thanks to my daughter, Emily, who came up with the ridiculous but catchy name!) know that they are not alone in their feelings and experiences with breast cancer. I hope you find my “tales” relatable, funny, and maybe even inspiring. Enjoy!
